How it works

Your instance

When you join, you get your own instance — a running copy of Akashic, set up for you and only you. It is not a shared account on a shared server; other people's records aren't on it, and yours isn't on theirs.

Your record

Everything Akashic knows about your life is kept as plain markdown files: your agenda, your notes, the things you've told it. Plain text, not a proprietary database, so it outlives any one piece of software — including Akashic itself.

Any model

Akashic doesn't lean on one AI company's identity. Ordinary questions are answered by a hosted model (see Privacy for which one and why); the record underneath is model-agnostic, so swapping the model behind it doesn't mean losing or rewriting your record.

The client

Today you use Akashic through a web client, signed in with a passkey on your phone. It works in any modern mobile or desktop browser at your own instance's address. Installing it to your home screen like an app is on the way, but isn't live yet — don't expect that step today.
